Lunar Eclipse celebrating a Blood Moon

Supermoon lunar eclipse: Where and what time can I see it on Sunday and how long will it last?

Also called a Blood Moon this eclipse will last for about 1 hour and 12 minutes.

Is this Total Lunar Eclipse visible in Toronto?

A Supermoon is a full Moon or a new Moon at its closest point to Earth; also called perigee. A Supermoon looks around 12 to 14% bigger than its counterpart, the Micromoon.

In the U.K., a rare blood-red eclipse is due to begin at 1:10am (BST) Monday – here’s how to see it for yourself. In the US, Canada, and Central and South America, this rare Total Lunar Eclipse of a Supermoon will begin on the evening of September 27, 2015. In Europe, South/East Asia, Africa, the Arctic, and in the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans it starts after midnight on September 28, 2015.

A Total Lunar Eclipse During a Supermoon Will Not Occur Again Until 2033!

During some lunar eclipses, totality (where the moon is completely covered by Earth’s shadow) can last up to an hour or more. While this past April’s lunar eclipse was the shortest of the entire century (with totality lasting only 4 minutes and 43 seconds!), totality for this weekend’s eclipse is going to last around 1 hour and 12 minutes, with the entire duration of the eclipse lasting over 5 hours. This gives you plenty of time to view the eclipse, and you will want to take this opportunity, because the next total lunar eclipse will not be until January 31st, 2018!

Amateur astronomers will be given a rare chance to capture a spectacular celestial event that has not occurred for 30 years tonight- a lunar eclipse with the moon near to its closest point to the Earth.
An awe-inspiring blood-red “supermoon” will cast its eerie light on the Earth early on Monday, creating an atmosphere of wonder and fear across the world.

When the moon is at “perigee”, its shortest distance from the Earth, it is 226,000 miles away and appears 14 per cent larger and 30 per cent brighter than when it is at its furthermost point.

The last time this coincided with a lunar eclipse, when the moon is covered by the Earth’s shadow, was in 1982 and the event will not be repeated until 2033.

During a lunar eclipse, the moon turns a deep rusty red, due to sunlight being scattered by the Earth’s atmosphere.

Down through the ages, so-called “blood moons” have been viewed as ill-omens by superstitious people.
For some – religious groups and believers in astrology – the eclipse will be dreadful in the most literal sense, a sign that the End of Days is approaching.

Monday’s eclipse is said to be even more significant, since it marks the completion of an unusual line-up of four total eclipses at six monthly intervals known as a “tetrad”.

What’s the difference between a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse?

full moonDuring a solar eclipse the sun is partly or completely obscured by the moon. The sun is much further from the earth, which makes it harder to see than a lunar eclipse. To view a solar eclipse you also need to wear protective eyewear, as the sun’s rays are damaging to the eye. Lunar eclipses are safe to look at with the naked eye.

Astrologically, Lunar Eclipses Are Believed to be Auspicious Times for Growth, Release and New Beginnings- This One May Feel Especially Intense

In the astrological world, lunar eclipses are usually associated with releasing what no longer serves you to create new beginnings and spur your personal growth. However, the exact changes that are stimulated will depend quite a lot on the astrological signs that the sun and the moon fall into during the eclipse.

The Lunar Eclipse meditation:

You can do this anytime between the Lunar Eclipse and the next New Moon. Same as the Solar Eclipse list, except this is a little harder. This time, think of the things in your life you would like to bring to a close, finish, or end. That contract you want to get signed, that job you want to finish. That guilty feeling. That unhealthy relationship. That nasty smoking habit.

Take some time to sit in a quiet space and breathe. Visualize the inner workings of that habit, the issue, the situation, as people. Give them names and faces! My addicted smoker and my inner doctor. My gentle self and my angry self. Visualize them each holding one end of a rope, like a tug of war. They can see each other now, how can they better understand one another? How can they work together to achieve balance? Picture each one gently dropping their end of the rope.

You have just asked for assistance from the universe to clear out old energies and make room for the things you want to bring in.
