Annual Session – Documents 25-27 June

Gender-and-MGDs (1)The operational activities of UN-Women are governed by an Executive Board based on General Assembly resolution 64/289 paragraph 57(b) which stipulates that “the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and the Executive Board of the Entity shall constitute the multi-tiered intergovernmental governance structure for the operational activities and shall provide operational policy guidance to the Entity”.

The Board also engages with the Executive Boards of other UN operational entities in an effort to harmonize approaches to operational activities. These engagements also provide opportunities for sharing experiences and coordinating programme work on gender equality and gender mainstreaming across the UN system. The work of the Executive Board is guided by its Rules of Procedure.

Members of the Executive Board are elected for a period of three years according to guidelines established by the General Assembly in the founding resolution of UN-Women A/RES/64/289. For information on current UN-Women Executive Board members please click here: Membership.

Schedule of meetings

Like other Executive Boards, the UN-Women Executive Board holds three main meetings a year: a First Regular session, in January, an Annual session in June and a Second Regular session in September. A calendar of meetings of the UN-Women Executive Board for 2013 is provided here: Calendar of the UN-Women Executive Board.

The next meeting of the Board will be the Annual session of the Executive Board to be held from 25 to 27 June 2013. All meetings of the UN-Women Executive Board are PaperSmart.
