is heart-warmed to share with all the Women of our World a new intiative that is partnering with Red Cross, UNICEF and Save the Children, and is supported by one of our very own WOMEN of ACTION, AYI JIHU.

Please listen to Ayi as she explains the efforts being made to help all the Women and Children that are suffering as a result of the Tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, 2011, this year.  

“Friends of the United Nations has launched a Special Appeal to assist people affected in Japan. For this Special Appeal FOUN is partnering with Red Cross, UNICEF and Save the Children as our beneficiary aid distribution partners.”

International rescue teams are sifting through the debris in search of survivors, while international aid agencies including the Red Cross, UNICEF and Save the Children have started distributing aid among the survivors. You can assist those people affected by the earthquake by making a donation.  The funds raised through this appeal will be used to support communities affected by the earthquake in .
The funds will be used to:
•Provide earthquake and tsunami affected communities, displaced families and their host families with emergency relief, equipment and recovery assistance, send specialist aid workers to assist in relief, recovery and longer term disaster management operations.
• Support the work of UNICEF, Save the Children, and Red Cross Society and other Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies from affected countries in assisting people devastated by this disaster.
Should the funds raised exceed the amount required to meet the immediate and longer term needs of the people in the affected areas, friends of the United Nations will direct the excess funds to other emergency preparedness and response initiatives in the Asia Pacific region.
Any interest earned on donations will be invested back into the appeal.
Foreign nationals seeking information about friends or relatives in Japan are advised to try contacting their friends or relatives first or contact their Consulates, Embassies, or their government’s Foreign Affairs ministries.
