WOMAN of ACTION™, Queen Rania – Taking Action!

A Celebration of Women™

is excited to share with the Women of our World that one of our WOMEN of ACTION™, a true Visionary, is committing to the Women of our World’s Future.

Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan is Taking Action!

WOMAN of ACTION™

Her Majesty, Queen Rania

We have decades of evidence that show that no country can make any progress in spite of its women. They make it with the full participation of women,” said Queen Rania. She pointed out that if you look at the past 20 years, women have contributed more to the global GDP than new technologies or the emerging markets of India and China.

Unleash the potential of women, and that’s how you are going to stimulate your economy. It’s as simple as that,” says Queen Rania.

There is no question that today world leaders need to make investing in girls and women a priority. While I respect that many leaders are looking at this from an economic perspective in order to stimulate interest and motivation for investment, I think we also need to find some motivation from a basic human respect perspective.

Girls deserve as much respect, value, and opportunities as boys; and women deserve as much respect, value, and opportunities as men. Simple as that.

Three basic laws that should be enforced:

• Prison for rape

• Prison for sex traffickers

• Child marriage should be illegal. (The legal age for marriage should be raised to 18.)”

Her Majesty wants to World to “Get TWEETING…”

This WOMEN of ACTION takes further steps, September 2010,

to reach her personal goal of Educating ALL the Children of our World, by committing

herself to a new initiative namely:

Girl Up.

Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan announced today that she will join the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up campaign as a global advocate for adolescent girls. Her leadership will help drive Girl Up’s mission to educate, empower and protect millions of girls around the world.

This “for girls, by girls” campaign mobilizes the energy and compassion of American girls and empowers them to improve the lives of girls beyond their borders. Through Girl Up, supporters can contribute to UN programs that provide girls in developing countries with basic needs like access to school supplies, clean water, life-saving health services, safety from violence and more.

In her role as a Girl Up Global Advocate,

Her Majesty will help broaden awareness about the issues facing girls today and inspire teens to get involved and Take Action.

Girls are a powerful force for change in our world. If given the chance, girls can contribute to building stronger communities, countries and economies. However, if we are ever going to realize their potential, we need to invest in their future, today,” said Queen Rania.

“I’m so pleased to join Girl Up

in making a difference for girls and our entire world.”

Her Majesty will help support Girl Up’s traveling “Unite for Girls” tour, which aims to energize and engage girls in cities across the U.S. She will also visit Girl Up supported programs on the ground to observe first-hand the impact they can have on adolescent girls and communities.

“We are honored to work with Her Majesty to encourage girls in the U.S. to make a positive impact on the lives of their peers in developing countries,” said Kimberly Perry, director of the UN Foundation’s Girl Up campaign.

Together, we can ensure that girls become educated, healthy, safe, counted and positioned to be the next generation of leaders.”

About Girl Up

Girl Up, a campaign of the United Nations Foundation, gives American girls the opportunity to channel their energy and compassion to raise awareness and funds for programs of the United Nations that help some of the world’s hardest-to-reach adolescent girls. Through Girl Up’s support, girls have the opportunity to become educated, healthy, safe, counted and positioned to be the next generation of leaders. Campaign supporters are encouraged to give a “High Five” to girls in developing countries by donating $5 or more to provide girls with such basic needs as access to school supplies, clean water, life-saving health services, safety from violence and more.

To give a High Five and learn more, join us at www.GirlUp.org .
